Interviews are designed for questions and it is inevitable that at some point the hiring manager is going to ask, “So, why should we hire you?” The obvious answer would be, “Because I need a job”, however your answer needs to be able to demonstrate to the employer how you are the solution to their problem above any other candidate. This is your time to stand out from the other candidates that they’ve already interviewed, it’s time to make yourself memorable.

Follow these top tips to ensure you stand out:

Make it about them

The key is to focus on the employer’s needs and not your own. Although this may seem like the perfect opportunity to expand on your career experience, it is in fact the prime time to explain how you’ll bring value to the company.

If you’ve prepared and done your research, you’ll have already highlighted what you think their business goals are and where you think they’re heading. Tell them how you think your talents can help them achieve this. Put them at the focus of your answer.

Refer to the job description

A god job description will not only outline the required qualifications and role responsibilities but it will also state the key skills needed to succeed. Whilst continuing to make the focus on them as a business, talk about times when you’ve demonstrated these skills in the past and how this will benefit them having you.

Stand out

It’s important to be memorable, but for the right reasons. You want to stand out, but you also want to demonstrate that you could easily fit in with their company culture.

Remember an interviewer will have asked this question a million times and heard a million answers too. Avoid clichés and answer with originality that will let your personality, confidence and capabilities shine through.
